To get started:
The Spending tab (on the left) will automatically show up on your screen. This tool gives you an at-a-glance view of how you’re spending your money, with a pie chart and listed categories broken out by topics such as entertainment, shopping, utilities and groceries. It will even show you your recurring expenses.
Take a closer look at your spending.
To see what you’re spending in each category, tap the category in the list, then select View Transactions in the center of the pie chart.
Choose which accounts you want to review.
To display expenses from one account or a few accounts only (which can be helpful if you have joint accounts with your kids), select the inverted triangle of lines next to Spending, and choose the accounts you want included.
Make sure your spending categories are correct.
Sometimes expenses are put into an incorrect category. To fix this:
Link your credit cards for a more comprehensive view of your spending habits.
If you also use credit cards and you want to track your spending across accounts, you can link your credit cards to your Gate City Bank account in online banking. To do this, go to GateCity.Bank, then log in to your account, click Get Started under LinkExternalAccounts on the right of your screen and follow the prompts. Our financial wellness tool is designed to show your spending habits from your Gate City Bank and linked external accounts.
Bottom line: People often think they know where their money goes each month, but small purchases and recurring expenses can add up quickly. Reviewing your spending habits helps turn assumptions into facts.
