Mortgage Customers Help Give $29,000 in Giving Hearts Day Donations.

By choosing Gate City Bank for their home loans, mortgage customers helped support local communities with more than $29,000 in Giving Hearts Day donations to animal causes, human services charities and more!

Throughout the year, customers who close on a home with Gate City Bank can choose a qualifying charity to receive a $50 donation from the bank. To help nonprofits meet their Giving Hearts Day matches and goals, the bank is giving nonprofits their donation checks now.

CATS Cradle Shelter, which rescues cats and kittens, was one of the nonprofit organizations that received a donation through Gate City Bank’s charity gift program for homebuyers.

This year, the program is providing more than $29,000 to just over 200 charities – more than doubling the $25,000 gift the bank is also donating through its Giving Hearts Day nomination contest.

“Our mission is to make a difference in the communities we serve,” said Amanda Torok, Gate City Bank Senior Vice President of Culture. “We’re thrilled to give people the opportunity to support the causes they care about with these gifts.”

Since launching in 2022, the bank’s charity gift program for homebuyers has donated more than $114,000 to local nonprofits.

“It’s so heartwarming to see how much people rally around charities in our region,” said Kim Settel, Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Banking Officer at Gate City Bank. “As the mortgage market is expected to stabilize this year and rates are predicted to drop a bit more, we hope this charity gift program will be able to make an even bigger impact in our communities next year.”

Mortgage customers can choose to direct their donation to one of more than 600 eligible charities. This year, 4 Luv of Dog Rescue, a Fargo-based volunteer-run nonprofit organization that rescues and rehomes homeless and unwanted dogs, received the most customer-directed donations.

Katie Paseka, Vice President and Secretary of 4 Luv of Dog Rescue, says the donation will have a huge impact on the organization’s Giving Hearts Day fundraising efforts.

“To know that there are so many people with good hearts out there who want to help make a positive impact is what keeps us going on the hard days,” she said. “Gate City Bank’s support shows a shared commitment to giving back to the community. That kind of partnership builds trust, spreads awareness of our mission and ultimately allows us to help more dogs find safe, loving homes. Knowing we have support like this behind us is incredibly encouraging and motivating.”

In addition to its charity gift program and $25,000 nomination contest, Gate City Bank is hosting a multi-community food drive to support local food pantries now through February 12. Nonperishable donations can be dropped off at any Gate City Bank location. Learn more about the bank’s Giving Hearts Day efforts.
