Gate City Bank Reveals Surprise Donation Ahead of Elk River Opening

ELK RIVER, MN – To celebrate a century of better banking that has culminated in a new Coborn’s location set to open June 27, and to show love for its newfound home, Gate City Bank recently delivered a special gift to a local charity.

On June 13, Gate City Bank team members – sporting big smiles and a big check – paid a friendly visit to Thumbs Up, a beloved nonprofit that champions mental health awareness and support throughout the region. The Bank’s $2,500 gift will help drive a number of the organization’s key initiatives, which have benefited the area since 2014.

“The people of Elk River have given us the warmest welcome into the area, and we’re just getting warmed up with our philanthropic giving!” said Ryan Coye, Senior Vice President of Retail Banking. “We thought a great place to start was Thumbs Up, which serves an incredibly beautiful purpose. They spread hope by creating a better way of life for those in need, and we’re very proud to stand alongside them and other community partners, especially as we celebrate 100 years.”

As the check exchanged hands, Gate City Bank team members and Thumbs Up representatives exchanged hugs and handshakes. The nonprofit expressed gratitude for the donation, which will go a long way in fulfilling its mission.

“We’re so thankful for Gate City Bank’s support of our mission, especially with a donation of this size – and especially since they’re brand new to the community!” said Katie Shatusky, Executive Director of Thumbs Up. “We feel really lucky to be part of Elk River. There’s a small-town feel here, and Gate City Bank will fit in perfectly.”

Embracing an Incredible Community.

Gate City Bank will follow up its first day on June 27 with an August ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration week, with festivities taking place at its new Coborn’s location at 19425 Evans St. NW. In the meantime, the Bank expresses its immense gratitude for the chance to join the Elk River community – and celebrate 100 years.

“At Gate City Bank, words can’t express how thankful we are for this wonderful opportunity to serve Elk River,” said Kevin Hanson, President & CEO. “It’s truly an honor to join this growing and vibrant community, which warmly aligns with our core purpose – to create a better way of life for customers, communities and team members. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate a century of better banking.”
